Some patients experience a temporary increase in their initial symptoms, particularly after the first one or two visits. This is usually part of the normal response and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. If symptoms persist beyond 48 hours or feel significantly worse rather than just mildly uncomfortable, contact us on (08) 8297 5277 so we can assess and adjust your treatment plan.

Seek emergency medical attention if you experience sudden severe headache, difficulty with speech, sudden weakness or paralysis, disorientation, vision changes, or loss of bladder or bowel control. These symptoms are extremely rare but require immediate medical assessment regardless of their cause.

Mild fatigue or achiness after an adjustment is your body's natural response to the changes in joint position, muscle tension, and movement patterns that occur during treatment. It's similar to the temporary soreness you might experience after starting a new exercise or activity. Your muscles and joints are adapting to improved movement, which can create short-term soreness before things settle.

Staying well hydrated, taking a gentle walk, and getting adequate rest can help your body recover more comfortably.

If you experience mild soreness, ice is generally recommended in the first 24 to 48 hours to reduce any localised inflammation (apply for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, with a cloth between the ice and your skin). After 48 hours, heat may help relax muscles and ease residual stiffness. Your chiropractor will give you specific guidance based on your individual treatment.

Some patients report brief, mild lightheadedness immediately after an adjustment, particularly a cervical (neck) adjustment. This is usually transient and resolves within a few minutes. It may be related to changes in blood flow or simply from lying down and then standing up quickly.

If dizziness is persistent, significant, or occurs alongside other symptoms such as nausea, headache, or visual changes, let us know immediately. Persistent or significant dizziness following any treatment should be assessed.

Contact us if you experience pain rated above 3 to 4 out of 10, soreness lasting beyond 48 hours, burning pain, new tingling, numbness, or weakness, muscle spasms, joint swelling, or headaches that are worsening.

Seek emergency medical attention immediately for sudden severe headache (unlike any previous headache), trouble with speech, sudden weakness or paralysis on one side, significant dizziness or disorientation, sudden vision changes, or loss of bladder or bowel control.

These serious symptoms are extremely rare in the context of chiropractic care, but knowing what to watch for helps you make informed decisions about your health.
