Our purpose on your first visit is to accurately and thoroughly evaluate your spinal problem and thus our main focus on this particular visit will be to gather as much information about your condition as possible. Usually, you will need to allow about half an hour for this visit.
Please note that any past imaging or reports are always useful to bring in to our chiropractors for retrospective analysis, comparison and review.
Completion of some brief paperwork about you and your condition.
An in-depth discussion about your current and past condition(s), and your medical history. This helps us to identify how your condition may have occurred and if it is related to other health issues you may have.
A full musculoskeletal examination consisting of postural assessment, range of movement, muscle testing, spinal motion palpation, and a range of specialised orthopaedic tests. This enables us to determine where your problem is and what structures are involved.
Remember, seldom is the cause of the problem at the site of the pain!
Following this, if indicated, we may obtain some spinal x-rays. This very simple and cost-effective service will be provided by one of our local Radiology partners. We will arrange a priority appointment for you at which time the latest technology allows us to receive your x-rays and have them digitised on our files, assessed and analysed ready for your next appointment. Spinal x-rays allow us to completely analyse your spinal characteristics, help us to rule out more serious conditions and assist us in the development of the most effective care plan for you.
On this visit you will receive a detailed explanation of the results obtained on your first visit and a full explanation of your spinal x-rays (should they have been taken).
During this visit, once again, you will have ample opportunity to ask any questions you may have. This is a great time to bring your spouse, partner or support friend should you wish, so that they may understand how to best assist and support you in your journey back to optimal health. We are a family practice so we both understand and encourage the benefits of working together to support you.
A program of care specifically tailored to your individual needs may be recommended with another opportunity to ask as many questions as you like.
This is always an exciting time as we take the very first of a number of stepping stones to a whole new era of better health. The spinal adjusting techniques and protocols best suited for your needs will be discussed with you so that you are fully aware of how things work, realistically what you can expect and just as importantly, what you can’t. Yes, we’re open, realistic and candid here. We use traditional ‘drop-piece’ chiropractic adjusting tables that allow low force and gentle adjustment whilst remaining very accurate and productive.
Regardless of what adjusting technique suits your individual spine, all techniques that we use are extremely safe, gentle and effective for all ages.
Following these visits, most of our patients elect to undergo a program of care to address their spinal issues properly. Ultimately, what direction you decide to take with your spinal health is always up to you. Your care plan is specifically tailored for your needs and will vary according to your individual circumstances and spinal condition.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns during your care, please tell us! We will always schedule a specific case management meeting for you where we can address any problems that may arise.
